Our core technology transforms biobased carbon into a biodegradable high-performance fiber material that we call Bylon™. Bylon performs just as well as conventional petroleum-based fibers like nylon and polyester, is just as flexible in its industrial applications, and can scale in today’s market quickly and cost-effectively. The key to Bylon’s success—and what makes it unique among circular next-generation fibers—is that it is a thermoplastic. Being melt-processable means it can be dropped into the same facilities used to make polyester or nylon today, and realistically replace conventional fibers at the scale and cost required. With Bylon, Sci-Lume Labs hopes to reduce the world’s dependence on petroleum-based plastic, and help usher in a new age of circular materials.
